The next Metroidvania Crowsworn lifted more than 880,000 CAD, or about 700,000 USD, on his Kickstarter page and, in doing so, reached all his gameplay goals. Crowsworn is a dark and hand drawn metroidvania that is inspired by Hollow Knight, Bloodborne and Devil May Cry. It will focus on "an exploratory platform, an immersive fight and a captivating narration".
Crowsworn shows his clear inspirations of Hollow Knight through his nonlinear world and his beautiful hand drawn artistic style while making gameplay and combat innovations similar to Devil May Cry and Bloodborne. The player, a doctor of the plague, has three weapons: a short-range false, long-range pistols and a powerful Corvian magic. At the base, the fight of the game is described as a fluid and reactive system, with typical movements such as precipitation, dods and jumps. However, the fight quickly becomes a stylized complex system when the combos are taken into account. For example, the player can make a simple movement of launching his fake in the manner of a boomerang. When combined with the shooting of his two pistols in his false feedback, the player can redirect the fake to the enemy several times in the manner of a ping-pong.
To date, Crowsworn has reached its target of 850,000 CAD, which means that a free DLC "the Vladar Islands" will be published after the launch to add a new region and a new story. Although the initial target of Crowsworn has only been set at 125,000 CAD, additional funding will provide a BOSS mode, a dubbing and more. With only 3 days remaining, Crowsworn has not yet reached its final target of 1M animated cinematics.
