Part of Pax joy is to have the opportunity to discover a wide variety of upcoming independent games that otherwise could be neglected. Often, these titles are creative, innovative and simply fun in a new way that we have not experienced yet. There is a ton of fascinating games exposed this year to Pax Online and I would like it to not seize the opportunity to highlight five games in particular that stand out with a particular shared trait: their ability to be surrealist, scary, and downright scary. These are the games that make you hold your breath. These are the games that even a light breeze makes you jump. Yes, there are really captivating and moving experiences to live this year in Pax, but these 5 frightening, scary and frightening games are definitely to watch.
One of the most surrealized entries in this list, Industria takes place in Berlin on 9 November, 1989 after the fall of the Berlin Wall. While the German people are united again, a scientist working on a secret project disappears. His destroyed research and the building soon empty, you're looking for answers in the installation. The game is perhaps an FPS, but it plays with a modified story featuring a surreal science and hoping to enter a parallel dimension. Every step of the path will keep you on the lookout while you are looking for the truth about the scientist and makes it the reality itself. Industria should go out in the first quarter 2021 for PC.
With an incredibly unique aesthetic style, Shadows of Doubt presents you as a detective trying to track a serial killer in a hyper-industrialized alternative reality of the 1980s. Advanced pixel style games and realistic lighting physics create an environment Captivating while you sneak through the city looking for clues. The game offers secondary missions for extra money, but sooner or later you will catch up with the killer. Can you discover who is the murderer before they hit again? Shadows of Doubt soon arrives on PC.
A beautiful entrance with watercolored landscapes and excellent mechanics recalling Ori and the Will of the Wisps, The Darkest Tales sees you embody a teddy bear named Teddy. Teddy came to life to save his owner, Alicia, the Kingdom of Dreams. Forgotten for a long time, Teddy must travel in these dappy childhood dreams and nightmares to bring it back from the brothel. Presented as a complex adventure with a challenging content and difficult questions about life, this game is beautiful to see and dripping with emotional weight. Can Teddy protect the owner who has forgotten him for a long time? The Darkest Tales arrives on PC in 2021.
Immerse yourself in the deepest recesses of your mind and nightmares with in Sound Mind, an experience of psychological horror at the first person. The players are responsible for traveling through their own painful memories and cope with their fears in an apparently endless nightmare. The game borrows industry icons like Resident Evil and The Evil Within to create a nightmare landscape or fragmented memories, full of horrible enemies and frantic puzzles to be solved. The game offers the original music of The Living Tombstone, a Youtube musical group known for its work to create an original band of Five Nights at Freddys. In Sound Mind will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next year.
White Shadows hits home on so many different layers while just staying a new incredible game. Ravengirl lives in a world of obedience and lies. It is a totalitarian state in the dark, completely devoid of color. She learns that a rebellion is preparing hidden somewhere in the last city in the world and looking for it to learn the truth about the world around it. Although it is entirely in black and white tones, White Shadows is beautiful to see and every centimeter of its design dripping with a hidden story and a brutal dictatorship. It is 1984 became a visceral fable. White Shadows was unfortunately not quite ready to participate in Pax this year, but it is absolutely one of the titles I look forward to in the future, and I hope we will not have to Wait for too long to see if Ravengirl can make a difference with White Wash Industries. White Shadows should go out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
